my partner and i recently (august 2011) started renovating our house and with a real living magazine subscription arriving in my mail box on a monthly basis and a penchant for chic furniture stores, i thought i had it nailed. ohh… ill tell you what peeps, i could not have been more wrong.

this being the case, my evenings these days are not only spent researching exotic holiday destinations and fashion sites but are rather spent researching diy news feeds and looking for inspirational decorating blogs.

whilst on my escapade to find quirky home décor ideas, i stumbled across this super cute blog – which just happens to be run by a local gc’er. paint me white is a blog/site dedicated to all things recycled and refurbished furnishings.

sandy (the bold chick behind the site, not the sandy from gcbb – who is departing for nz this week) has an obsession for upcycling old furniture. as a self-confessed treasure hunter, she opts to see the beauty in what pieces can be rather than what they currently are. sandy’s style is shabby, rustic, beachy, french and vintage and completely adorable.

if you are in need to a bit of decorating encouragement or just need a project to fill in your christmas holiday, then visit paint me white and hit sandy up.

tonic and a side of gin – oh i don’t mind if i do.

this ambient and enticing restaurant, which is handily located in chirn park, has been under new management for the past twelve weeks and you guessed it - we have already decided to add it to our favourites list when discussing the topic of eateries.

given that we are a little short of fabulous tapas cafes on the gc, this was sure to pop up on our radar at some point – thank goodness for us that it was earlier, rather than later.

having frequented last week, we have already sampled some of the amazing cuisine options on the menu such as the japanese shoestring fries with mayo, seasonal pecking duck san choy bow, marinated lamb cutlets with tahini sauce, pan-fried mushroom risotto balls and we topped it off with zesty coriander prawns.

the décor has been seriously revamped and now exudes a classy inner-city restaurant feel finished with mirrored brick walls, mood lighting, comfortably low set table settings and a wine cellar made from dismantled crates.

with prices ranging from 7 – 16 dollars for both food and drinkies, this type of feast can certainly be tailored to any budget and we must note that the wait-staff were consistently friendly and only too happy to answer questions for us inquisitive bloggers.

we will be ringing the weekend in this friday night.

the end of a chapter.

it is with a heavy heart that i say goodbye to sandy this week. as a native nz’er, her roots have called her back, and in search of a new and exciting travel/ career path, sandy departs the gorgeous gc on thursday.

sandy will be greatly missed.

this does mean a few changes and a bit of a shake up here on gcbb… so i will endeavor to do my dandiest to keep you up to date on the happenings here, there and everywhere.

have a fabulous week lovelies and ill be seeing you shortly.

(some cheeky happy-snaps from sandy’s farewell party at cha cha’s over the weekend…)
